  • RARE SIGNED PORTRAIT RS
PRUSSIA PORCELAIN OPEN SALT CELLAR DIP PINK 2 OF 2
    This
sale is for a rare porcelain portrait (transfer) 5-footed salt cellar.
It also has pink & rose-colored
decoration and hand-painted gold trim to the top rim and “sponged” gold trim around
    the foot area.
It is a quality little piece
    of porcelain.
Please be sure to read the
“Age and Condition” paragraphs below for the condition of the salt.
I am gradually selling my salt
cellar and individual nut dish collection that at one time was over 1,800
    pieces.
    This particular piece has been
in my personal collection since 1985.
The salt is signed on the underside
with a “Royal Saxe E. S. Germany” green mark.
This same mark is pictured in the book
    The
Collectors Encyclopedia of R. S. Prussia: Fourth Series
    by Mary Frank
Gaston on page 207 and is described there as “ES Mark 8”.
    Similar
shape salts are pictured in the book
    5,000
    Open Salts
by William Heacock & Patricia Johnson on page 81, but
there are no portrait salts of this same style pictured in this book.
The portrait salts that are there (Photos #
1402 & # 1403), are described as “rare & unusual” by these authors.
    One
salt that is similar to this one is pictured in Plate #723 in the book
    The Open Salt Compendium
    by
Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson where the authors describe it as “rare”.
    A
rare, beautiful and desirable little salt.
Don’t miss this opportunity to own it.
    I
do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of
    my ability.
Some of my photos may be
somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color.
However, do not hesitate to contact me with
any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.
I will get back to you as soon as I am
    able.
I want your transaction with me to
be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

    Age and Condition
    Circa
    1900.
    It
is in excellent to near mint condition, with one exception.
Please look closely at the photos as they are
an important part of my description of this item.
    T
    here
is a chip to the underside of the foot; this is not noticeable when the salt is
displayed in the normal manner – see the center right of the last photo for a
    close-up of this.
    There is also some
slight wear to the gold trim – see the photos.
    Otherwise, t
here are no other chips, flea bites, cracks,
    hairlines or repairs.
    Please keep in
mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see
will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is.
    Please
note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a
    mark on the piece.
    It will be either
just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the
    right side of the photo.
    Approximate Dimensions

2.5” (6.4 cm) across at the widest point and sits about .75” (1.9 cm) of the
    table.
    Approximate Weight

    .875 ounces (25 grams).
